We couldn't find it, so we built it ourselves.
Since then, Tsugu has brought together individuals with expertise spanning industries and disciplines, who collectively set founders and their businesses up for success.
Prior to founding Tsugu, Richard was a Big4 Partner focused on Private Capital – working with some of the most successful entrepreneurs, families, private equity, fast growth businesses and private enterprises with an international footprint.
Leveraging his accounting, tax, legal, fiduciary and investment expertise, Richard developed a niche for designing and executing focused family and investment offices. Tsugu is testament to this.
Previously based in London, UK, Richard is now based in Switzerland.
Matthew kicked off his 25-year career as an investment banker in global capital markets, focusing on M&A and ECM advisory for clients across Europe and America, including Morgan Stanley, ABN Amro, and Merrill Lynch.
Switching to buy-side M&A and corporate strategy, he later held senior leadership roles at UBS and Julius Baer in London and Zurich. There, he advised their executive boards on over 30 major transactions and tech investments worth more than US$ 12 billion, before moving onto the executive board of Swiss crypto bank AMINA.
Matthew also has significant supervisory board experience, serving in regulated positions for 8 years under CSSF & BAFin Europe, CVM Brazil, and FINMA Switzerland.
Currently living in Switzerland, Matthew is a passionate skier.
Gosia is focused on Tsugu’s diversified long-term investment portfolio.
Working on the investment team at Hoegh Capital Partners London for 12 years, Gosia criss-crossed investing styles; underwriting direct investments in asset-intensive industries, and managing a buffet-esque portfolio of stocks and funds which became her favourite approach.
Gosia spent a year advising family office clients within the PwC network, and had a hectic summer launching an equity research shop out of the rubble of 2008’s financial crisis.
Gosia is an alumna of the University of Cambridge and has passed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) exams. She enjoys foodie travelling, skiing and counterfactual thinking (as expressed by a not yet forgotten shelf full of medicine and physics books).
Rosie has worked with founders and entrepreneurs throughout her career.
Most recently working with Phil Libin, the co-founder and former CEO of Evernote, as his Chief of Staff and Head of Communications for his product studio, All Turtles, and video communications app, mmhmm.
Whilst at All Turtles she worked with both first time and seasoned founders to define their product, articulate its purpose, and build creative and impactful campaigns to drive growth. Prior to that she led Communications and PR for Evernote across EMEA, based in Zürich.
Rosie began her career in London working with two entrepreneurs to build Seven Hills, a campaigning communications firm. Whilst at Seven Hills she supported the launch of StartUp Britain, the UK Government’s national campaign for entrepreneurs, worked with Virgin on their young entrepreneurs Pioneers programme, and delivered media campaigns for One Young World, which is often referred to as a ‘young Davos’.
Rosie loves the mountains and prefers skiing over walking.
Prior to joining Tsugu, Caitlin was the Personal Assistant to the CEO at a technology law firm. During her time there, she supported the CEO in the day-to-day management of the company, as well as in a personal capacity.
Caitlin has extensive experience supporting fast growth and high impact teams. She thrives on being able to support executives to optimise their productivity, allowing them to prioritise driving the business forward.
As a former competitive swimmer, Caitlin now teaches children to swim in her spare time.
Clara brings expertise in international financial services, tax optimization, and legal compliance to support international operations. She has deep expertise in data protection, transfer pricing, and cross-border financial operations.
Prior to joining Tsugu, Clara was a Manager at Utopia Music AG where she advised on financial transactions and partnerships across different jurisdictions and optimised personal data compliance. She holds a Master of Law (International and Comparative Law) from the University of Zurich and a Bachelor of Law from Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona.
Based in Zug, she is passionate about the protection of animal welfare and art.
A former lawyer, Tess trained at Allen & Overy and was part of the team which built out Maurice Turnor Gardner, its private wealth spin-out. After nearly a decade advising entrepreneurs, families and trustees on estate planning, cross-border tax planning and the design/operation of international structures, Tess moved into a Chief of Staff role for Hilton Nathanson, a London-based hedge-fund entrepreneur.
In 2017, Tess was appointed Director of Operations of Red Deer, an award-winning fintech company, the technology of which underpinned much of the hedge fund’s success.
Tess has worked with entrepreneurs and founders all her life, and one way or another, has spent her entire career driving their businesses forward, managing risk and making sure that their interests are optimised and protected.
As a young child, Tess broke her arm seven times, so has perfected the art of patience, and has become an expert in fixing things.
Bo is a Partner at Tsugu Ventures, the permanent capital venture investing arm within Tsugu.
Based in Los Angeles, Bo has supported founders and made gaming content, platform and infrastructure investments globally as an Investor at Griffin Gaming Partners, the largest venture capital fund focused on gaming.
Prior to this, she was an equity research analyst focused on software and gaming at Citigroup and Bloomberg.
Markus focuses his time on private market and private equity investments, areas he has a decade of extensive experience in. Before joining Tsugu, Markus spent 5 years with one of the leading single family offices in Switzerland, where he worked in close collaboration with the owners not just on identifying and executing investment opportunities but also on strategic asset allocation and investment strategy.
Prior to that, he held corporate finance and M&A roles at KPMG in Frankfurt. Markus holds a BA in Banking and Finance and an LLM in Commercial Law and Restructuring. Markus tries to find time for triathlon training, walking his dog and yoga practice (the latter with limited success) in order to be able follow his other passion; cooking, food and wine.
Roger has worked with entrepreneurs and family businesses through most of his career.
Prior to Tsugu, Roger was the Chief Investment Officer of Spectrum Value Management, the family office of the Dr. Thomas Schmidheiny family. Roger also spent time at Silverhorn Group, an Asia based cross asset class investment boutique and multi family office. He started his career as a management consultant with Oliver Wyman.
An alumnus of the University of St Gallen (MA in Banking & Finance) and Stanford University (Executive Program), Roger is also a Chartered Alternative Investment Analyst (CAIA) and holds the Financial Risk Manager (FRM) designation. He has studied and worked in Switzerland, the US, Sweden, Hong Kong and Singapore.
Roger is a history buff and an ice hockey aficionado.
With over 10 years of experience in dealing with legal and tax matters surrounding privately held wealth, Alex has been advising some of the most influential families, entrepreneurs, family-owned and fast-growth businesses.
Prior to joining Tsugu, she worked in a Big4 as part of the Private Clients team, where she was involved in projects such as the design, set-up and transformation of family offices, family business succession vehicles and tax efficient investment structures.
Alex is a qualified lawyer and a Trust and Estate Practitioner (STEP Member).
Alex is a tennis enthusiast and a vinyl collector.
Ray has been with Tsugu from early on in its journey and currently covers a number of positions within the firm.
With more than 35 years of experience in retail and private banking, investment management and consulting, Ray began his career in Jersey, later moving to Switzerland to join a boutique investment consultancy. Ray later took up positions in Asset Management at a Big4 firm, where he set up an investment consulting practice.
Ray holds qualifications and professional memberships with the London Institute of Financial Services, The Securities Institute and the International Compliance Association. He is also an Associate member of STEP.
When not riding his vintage Triumph motorcycle Ray keeps fit cycling, swimming, and running, and as an accomplished bagpipe player he brings a Scottish flavour to events throughout Switzerland and beyond.
Lukas brings specialist principal and direct equity investment experience, as well as expertise in corporate finance, private debt and financial modelling, to support our portfolio investments and our founders.
Prior to joining Tsugu, he worked at Julius Bär, Ernst & Young, and Credit Suisse. Lukas holds a Master of Arts in Accounting and Finance from the University of St.Gallen.
Based in Zürich, he is passionate about CrossFit, cycling, kitesurfing, and skiing.
Jonathan is a Founding Partner of Adventus Capital where he is responsible for the management of their Endowment and Private Equity strategies. Prior to Adventus, Jonathan was a Founder and Co-Chief Investment Officer at Tribus Capital Partners, where he managed a globally diversified investment program for over a decade. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in 2000, followed by time at Lehman Brothers and Merrill Lynch before moving to Switzerland in 2009.
